Whether it’s an ear infection, sore throat, or allergies, your child may eventually need to see an ENT. Children may be anxious or frightened by a new doctor, but being aware of what their first visit will be like will help assuage fears.

The nurse or doctor will take you child’s medical history, so come prepared with any prescriptions he or she is on and medical records like vaccination schedule, family history, and the timing of any surgeries or major illnesses.

Depending upon what the complaint is, the doctor will examine your child’s ear, nose, or throat. It may be uncomfortable for the child but it may help if he or she sits on your lap while the examination takes place. Depending upon the age of the child, the doctor may also simply observe the child in play.

If further treatment is necessary, your ENT professional will discuss it with you in detail and answer any questions you have.
