What can we really do to stay healthy during a pandemic? While gyms are opening, many people do not yet feel comfortable going into such settings. There are other ways patients can stay healthy during COVID-19 and maintain overall health- which is very important to hearing health.
How can we help our body fight off COVID-19:
What can we do to keep our immune system working at its best during this odd time? While many are getting infected by the Coronavirus, surrounding family and friends are continuing to increase efforts to boost the immune system. Of course, there is the obvious.
Eat healthy and exercising are both never bad options. The immune system is an intricate network of units that act together to attack bacteria or viruses. In order for the body to fight off enemies, it must work efficiently.
Let’s start out with reviewing ways to aid the immune system. Exercising regularly does not have to take place in a gym or home gym. Look around your home or work place. There is sure to be at least a space where you can fit in one hundred fifty minutes of exercise per week.
Regular exercise does help with heart health, gut health, weight management, but also overall health including hearing. Exercising assists with balance which we have previously discusses influences one’s hearing. Eating properly of course is up next.
Daily activity and diet affects the immune system:
What a person eats all day long matters just as much or more than exercise experts share. Even if a patient was to exercise sufficiently every week but consumed sub par foods, the hard work would be for nothing. Eating a balanced diet is key for a healthy immune system.
If you invested in a luxurious car, you would be sure to maintain its longevity by giving it proper fuel, oil, and other necessities. The same goes for the body- except we cannot just buy a new immune system. Once you treat an immune system poorly, it is hard to backtrack after the effects appear.
Eating fruits and veggies will of course only boost your immune system, it cannot hurt it, so why not try adding this into your daily lunch plans. Using apps to keep track of foods is an easy way of knowing whether or not the correct amount of fruits and vegetables were eaten every day.
How the immune system works:
Let’s get into the details of the immune system, so you understand how your body has been fighting for you all of your life. Theres are types of immunities. GALT is the largest mass of lymphoid tissue in the body.
It is the gut-associated lymphoid tissue. In this part of the body, there is antigen-presenting cells. An immune response is how the body recognizes and defends itself from bacteria, viruses, and potentially foreign substances that may harm your body.
The body’s immune system recognizes and responds to antigens. Antigens are found on the surface of cells, viruses, fungi, or bacteria. They are usually proteins, but they can also be toxins, chemicals, drugs, and foreign particles. For example, a splinter can be considered a foreign object to the body.
