Hearing loss doesn’t have to slow you down this summer, especially when it comes to enjoying cinema blockbusters. Many movie theaters have accessibility options that can help ensure that you hear the movie loud and clear. If you have a hearing aid, you have even more options.
All cinemas have assistive devices that anyone can borrow. To get one, all you need to do is ask at the ticket counter. You may need to leave an ID or small deposit, but there is no charge for using an assistive hearing device.
AMC theaters have a closed captioning device that clips onto the cup holder and adjusts so that the user can see both screens at once.
Regal Cinemas partnered with Sony Entertainment to develop Access Glasses, closed captioning glasses that project the text so that it appears that the words are floating 10 feet in front of the wearer. They also come equipped with audio boosters and will describe action on the screen for those who are visually impaired.
If you have a hearing aid, you can simply turn up the volume a bit while at the cinema. Or, if your hearing aid comes with telecoil, you can wear an infrared receiver around your neck that will send clear sound directly to the hearing aid.
