Whether it be everyday work and home stresses that are causing tension or the special stresses that come just once a year, taking a few minutes a couple of times per day to stretch your neck and shoulder muscles will not only help you to feel better, it will also help you to handle stress better in the future.
Rodney Yee is a professional yoga instructor. In the video above, he introduces neck and shoulder stretches that take only four minutes and can be done at your work desk.
Yee recommends starting with the shoulders and shoulder blades, working your arms to the side, and above your head, all the while paying particular attention on how the muscles in your shoulders and upper back feel.
Especially if you don’t stretch often, it’s important to be very, very careful while stretching the muscles in your neck. Go slowly and stretch gently. Even a slight stretch can help to relieve tension. If you practice daily, you’ll find that you’ll be able to stretch deeper and further over time.
