Parabens are a common preservative found in many cosmetics, from makeup and lotions for your face and neck, to shampoo and conditioner to your hair. They act as a preservative because the prevent microbes from growing in the product.

Parabens can be absorbed through human skin and have been found in breast tumors. There was no indication, however, that parabens cause breast cancer. In fact, some research suggests that the amount of parabens found in cosmetics  makes it implausible that they lead to cancer.

More research is necessary to figure out if parabens are harmful or harmless. Ear, nose, and throat doctors are trained in cancers of the head and neck and promote good health and hygiene of the head and neck. As such, we encourage the most careful care of your body. We don’t promote or advise against products that contain parabens, but we do recommend doing research and deciding  what is right for your body, regardless of what advertisements say.
